The care card you received has a summary of instructions for different categories of my products, however, for item-specific instructions, head over to my Etsy page under the "Shop" tab. Located in the product description of the items you purchased, you'll find more detailed product specifications and care instructions. You can also always reach out through email if anything is unclear.
The bottom line is that even when your cutting board appears dry, it might still be damp inside. If you use it frequently before it fully dries, you’re creating an ideal environment for moisture to linger, leading to mold and bacteria growth. I recommend letting your cooking utensils and cutting boards dry for at least 12 hours before reusing them—though it’s okay to skip the full drying time occasionally. I dive deeper into this topic, especially on the moisture page under the "Science" tab.

Yes, my wooden candle holders are perfectly safe to use! As with any candle, please exercise caution—never leave it burning unattended or near children and pets. All my candle holders come with a tealight that burns for about four hours and will self-extinguish when the wick burns out. If you plan to refill the candle, only use tea lights in metal inserts. Do not stack candles for aesthetics when lit or if they haven’t fully cooled off to avoid hot wax spilling/potential fires. I finish my candle holders with Clapham's Beeswax for added fire resistance.
Wood is a natural material, so it's normal for it to show wear and tear over time. I always bring demonstrations to craft shows of my cutting boards and spatulas that have been regularly used with staining foods like strawberries and blackberry jam. You'll notice some discoloration after the first wash, but don't worry—repeated use and washing (unless always used with the same blackberry jam) will naturally fade the stains over time without the use of chemicals. You can learn more about how unfinished wood absorbs and neutralizes stains on the finishes page under the "Science" tab.
The Mini Charcuterie Set (tongs, knife, and spurtle) is finished with Clapham's Beeswax because they are not meant for high moisture exposure, but instead for contact with cured meats and cheeses. The Cooking Utensils will see a lot more extreme use with boiling water, spaghetti sauces, and cake batters. Because of these differences, the Mini Charcuterie Set leans more towards the feel and aesthetics of a wax shine whereas the cooking utensils are meant to withstand rough wear and tear in the kitchen.
In my set of four cutting boards, each piece is crafted for a specific purpose. The second board, made from spalted walnut, adds unique variety and contrast to the collection. However, it’s designed specifically for dry items like bread or charcuterie and is not suitable for moist foods such as strawberries or raw chicken. I highlight why dark or tropical woods are less ideal for cutting boards on the extractives page under the "Science" tab.
Never put wooden items in the dishwasher. The intense washing and drying cycles can cause wood to warp, crack, and become more susceptible to mold. Dishwashers use steam and high heat, similar to the process of steam bending. Instead, wash your wood products by hand (soap is optional) and let them dry on their side for at least 12 hours between uses. More information can be found in the moisture page under the "Science" tab.
It might sound surprising, but as long as you rinse your cutting board after using it for raw chicken (soap can help eliminate odors faster) and ensure it dries completely—beyond just the surface—unfinished wood will naturally pull surface bacteria into its fibers where it eventually dies. This natural process changes, however, when you apply any kind of finish (waxes/oils). More information can be found in the finishes page under the "Science" tab.
